On Nov. 1st, Jingjiang College of Jiangsu University held the opening ceremony of the first Traditional Cultural Festival, in order to implement general secretary Xi’s demand to inherit and sublimate the excellent traditional culture of China, enhance college students’ awareness of learning excellent traditional culture, and improve students’ attainments on the studies of ancient Chinese civilization. Zhang Wenjuan, deputy secretary of Youth League Committee of Jiangsu University, Xia Min, associate dean and deputy party secretary of Jingjiang College, Yang Zongkang, a teacher of Youth League Committee of Jiangsu University, and Gao Fukang, secretary of Youth League Committee of Jingjiang College attended the activity.

Deputy secretary Xia Min emphasized in his speech that Chinese traditional culture boasts the fine tradition of self-discipline and social commitment, and the current college students, as Chinese children and descendants of the Chinese nation, are obliged to inherit and promote the five thousand years of national culture. He expressed his hope and expectations to the students present through the quotation “All are past and gone; we look to this age for truly great men.” Deputy secretary Zhang Wenjuan announced the opening of the cultural festival. Yangzheng Association of Jingjiang College of Jiangsu University presented dance performance, helping the attendants understand Chinese traditional culture in every respect through the quaint Han clothing, classical songs, antique calligraphy and the primitive Kongfu, Taiji, while the games such as rope skipping and competition of traditional cultural knowledge brought the activity to climax. Students participated actively and realized the broadness and profundity of Chinese culture. In the end the activity concluded successfully with flying the bamboo dragonfly.

It is said that after the opening ceremony of the Traditional Cultural Festival, the sub-activities of various styles and rich content, such as competition of the knowledge on ancient Chinese civilization, the exhibition of the calligraphic works, learning Taiji Kongfu to build strength, studying disciple rules and reciting the classic articles, and the cultural festival of vegetarian diet will be held.
